For most standard dining tables, a seat height around 45-48 cm is common. The more important measurement is the gap between the chair seat and the underside of the table. Around 25-30 cm usually provides comfortable legroom for many diners.

Allow roughly 55-60 cm of table width per diner as a practical starting point. Wide upholstered chairs, armchairs or chairs with curved backs may need more room, so compare the actual chair width with the usable table length.

A 180 cm rectangular table will often seat six people, depending on chair width and table-leg position. If the chairs are particularly wide or have arms, fewer seats may be more comfortable. Check the table base before assuming three chairs will fit on each long side.
